If The Pacific Okinawa Players has a rich history on the island of Okinawa and with the military community.

Did you know POPs was founded in April of 1988?

The original board came together to form a local community theater group where military members could come together and participate in performing arts. The first year was funded by members of POPs and other associates.

Below is an excerpt from the first musical, "South Pacific", where president Dondie Sugden described the beginning year of POPs:

"One year ago some friends formed the group and decided to “back” our first show with six months dues paid “up front” in order to have some working capital, which produced “The Butler Did It” followed by “The Owl and the Pussycat,” “The Girls of the Garden Club,” “Christmas on the Rock ’88,” “The Canterbury Tables” and now a major musical presentation!"
